Ezio had an inkling, watching the conversations unfold on the network around the attacks, that Annie had been involved. But even if he's wrong, there's no harm in checking. It's just a stroll down the halls, up the stairwells, and a quick knock on her door.

The next time Annie comes in, there's a painting on her bedroom door. It's a watercolor of a ship and next to it, in handwriting that took Godric quite some time to perfect in ink, he's written out Dickenson's "Adrift! A little boat Adrift."

There's also a sticky note next to it that says: Don't worry-I just thought the words looked nice with the ship on the paper. I want to read it to you so don't read it yet - come wake me up.

Taura is incredibly upset, but she takes a little while to get herself under control. It was different when Ford left, having accomplished what he needed to, and chosen where he was going. This is the second father figure she's had on the Barge, and the second one who's left before her.

Once she's calmer, she goes looking for Annie, knocking on the door of the cabin she shares with Godric.

After his conversation with Lark, Godric actually goes to search out Annie. It's rare that he doesn't let her be in the evenings, but this is different. This is important. He finds her and slides an arm around her shoulders. "We should talk," he says, authority in his voice.

After his talk with Archer, Godric goes to find Annie. He knows this talk won't go well, but he has to let her know so she won't worry.

Sweeney knows he's not well. Talking with Rags had only made it more obvious. But it hasn't helped him understand who he is or what he's supposed to be. He remembers parts of things, but he's not sure which he should focus on. But he remembers this place well, which gives him somewhere else to be other than his cabin.

However, something in him is hesitant. He doesn't know why. But it's the reason he's standing on the pathway instead of resting in the grass, just staring at the flowers with a whiskey bottle in his hand, trapped in his own thoughts.

A couple of days after the breach, Annie will find Godric sitting calmly on the couch, book in hand, dressed in jeans and a blazer, smelling of the city and unfamiliar people.

[Sometime in early October, after their cooking video and ideally when there's no crazy shit going down, Steve leaves Annie a private voice message:]

Hey, when you have some time, can you come by to help me plan something? It's for Godric. Nothing bad.

There's isn't a knock, but left outside is small bouquet of flowers wrapped in a handkerchief and tied with a blue ribbon. They look like they're probably from the Greenhouse (though not the knoll), and are neatly trimmed and arranged. There's also an unsealed envelope addressed to Annie.

Sweeney bangs hard on the door, as if for some reason she might not hear him otherwise.

It's never occurred to him that it's annoying to not know where to find her, especially while trying to avoid Godric. He figures he'll start here first, just because it's next door. That said, he doesn't expect her to be in there without him, and he's already trying to sort a list of other potential haunts.

He's not really in a great mindset for thinking clearly. His thumb rubs roughly against the paper while he tries to manage a decent wait time.

It's worse.

It's so much worse.

Gerard doesn't take much time to ready himself. Who even knows how long he'll have before he slips away and Sweeney will...

He forces the thought from his mind and all the images that come with it. He'd managed the basics; get his shirt tucked and jacket on. A quick finger-comb through his hair as he hurries to her cabin. The feel of it against his hand makes him nauseous. But there's no time for the thought of his own comfort.

By the time he's at the door, he's pale as a sheet with worry etched deep in his brow. There's hardly a breath before he's urgently knocking. It's not a thunderous pounding, just a rapid set of rapping.

Please let her be home. Please let her be alright. Please let her be safe.

It was getting to the point where just being in her presence made his skin burn. For all of her talk of her own impulsiveness, it's not like Sweeney was ever in a place to cast stones. This had been a challenge for both of them.

But for all the prodding and teasing and backpedaling, they were here, now. On the very literal doorstep of success. He had requested a break there at the end, just an hour to try to calm himself and focus. Sweeney knows what he wants to do. But he also knows he's not likely to be of the mind to think on it shortly.

He'd asked her to meet him there; in truth it doesn't matter if it's his place or hers. He settles for the bit of wall in between, where he waits for her leaned against it.

Sweeney’s warm and smells heavily of the earth and green things, far more fresh and intensely than normal. He hasn’t dressed up (what’s the point), but the sides of his head are cleanly shaved down.

Sweeney's proud that he managed to get all the way back to his place without yanking or shoving or hoisting his way into opening the neatly bandaged wound from that fucking greenhouse glass.

But now that they're here and his motel key is in his hand, he knows it's about to get a lot harder. As if his trousers aren't already tight enough.

He peeks down to her, his want tempered for a moment in sincere question.

"Ya still got time ta go home," Sweeney offers. "Actually get some sleep."

His voice drops a touch in promise. "I can wait fer you."

Sweeney wishes he was surprised to find her here. At least it isn't his fault she is. Well, he's pretty sure. He hopes not.

He's grateful that Godric didn't give him a hard time about visiting. That was a can a bullshit that can wait for another day.

So he finds himself standing awkwardly, shifting his weight and unsure where one is supposed to start the 'I'm sorry I tortured you about your shit but I'm not sure it was a bad thing' talk. So he starts with something easier.

"Hey, Trouble."

Crozier feels he needs to atone for his sins. He hasn't been gracious enough, patient enough, caring enough, and Annie has been nothing but steady since his arrival. When he hears she's also been injured by the creature he comes to find her, a single flower plucked from the remains of the greenhouse, wilted and a little torn, placed in an empty bottle of whiskey for a vase.

A pitiful offering, but genuine at least.

Sweeney makes plenty use of his long stride to get them back to her ship. Over the threshold and down to her cabin; he's well-versed in the journey by now. So much so, he pulls a key from his pocket.

While he's fitting it to the lock, he speaks back at her cheekily, but it only presses his words into her hip. "This treasure best be impressive, if ya've made me come all this way ta see it."

It's late when Godric comes back to find Annie, hopefully after her shift at the White Elephant. "Hey," he calls out as he steps onto her boat. "Are you still awake?"

Because if not, he's just going to curl up in bed beside her.

Sweeney's caught up in invigoration. After spending so much time searching, every port he visited and the back alleys of Flotilla itself, to find the solution with Archer and Sariss is...well, poetic in its way. He's just grateful that there was success, that he'd been able to do this. For Annie.

That news is what has him hurrying to her boat, eager to tell her and see them reunited. He hopes that she'll be able to forgive him for the sin of his omission, but he couldn't watch her heart break again. Not when there was still hope that he could save it.

Sweeney's in a good mood. He'd left for his trip in one and returned back even more so. He'd found what he'd been looking for. Well, not The Thing. Just the thing. One well worth the smile.

He approaches the boat with a grin.

"Permission ta come aboard," he calls out playfully.

If Sweeney's going to do something fancy, he's going to put in the effort. He's increasingly terrible at half-measures.

Renting the room early, he's able to get some things set up. He's changed out the linens for a high thread-count cotton and added a few extra pillows. His chair is more comfortable this round; he's prepared to enjoy the long haul. The table beside it is larger and has both a bottle of rum and gin, along with three tumblers, and an ornate bottle of oil. There is also an assortment of fruit and chocolates. He makes sure there's an extra stool.

A privacy screen half-conceals a small tub. It's nothing fancy and the water's room temperature, but at least it comes with fresh towels. He's paid for Rose's and Thomas's night, just in case they're desired; Sweeney has no problem giving them the night off if they aren't.

Tonight's about everyone enjoying themselves. He sure as fuck will.

Godric doesn't like when he doesn't know what's going on with Annie. They fall out of lockstep and things seem to go wrong. The last time, she had killed someone. This time? He's not sure what the consequences will be.

He goes to her ship after spending the day sleeping in his own little home, hoping to catch her before she goes out.

"Annie?" he calls out, stepping aboard. "Are you here?"
