Reindeer are real? I thought they just flew around on Christmas. I mean no, I didn't actually think they fly or whatever but that's the only place I ever heard of them.
[There aren't a lot of wild animals in Los Angeles, and those she'd seen in Central America could definitely not be strapped to a magic sleigh, so she's excited.]
[It's actually warmer than he expected. He nods and starts them off towards a hill, where he can hear a herd of caribou snorting just out of eyesight.]
One day I'll take you onto the ice. This is far more pleasant.
[Laughing] Not even a little. The reindeer I saw as a kid were brown and had littler antlers and bigger eyes. 'Cause they were these weird puppet things...I gotta show you that movie.
[She's a taut ball of energy right now, can't help it.] Wait here.
[She finds a copse and sheds her clothes despite the cold, then changes forms. Her fur is still a little pink, but she figures even if the reindeer (caribou?) aren't color blind she wants them to run anyway.
She races out, snapping at one of them, until the herd begins to run.]
[One moment Annie's upright, the next she's furry and chasing after the herd. He laughs softly and takes a seat on the boulder, content to just let her play a little.]
[She's faster and stronger than any wolf, so when a caribou does turn on her there's not the least risk of getting gored. When she's raced and chased until her tongue is dry she trots back to Crozier, tail wagging madly.]

Date: 2021-07-25 02:31 am (UTC)It's a North American reindeer, and it's delicious. I think I lend you one of my parkas so we can venture into the Enclosure and see one together.

[As they climb she can see them, too, shaggy fur and big feet and all.]
What do they taste like?

Date: 2021-07-26 02:09 am (UTC)Like venison, if you've ever had that. The Netsilik dry out the meat for the winter months.
[He likes it that way too, a little caribou jerky]
Well? Do they look like what you imagined?
